Does the Barking Foundation provide grants for non-profit organizations?No. However, the Kings also have a separate foundaton for non-profit organizations. For more information visit that web site at www.STKfoundation.org. Who is eligible to receive a grant?Maine residents with financial need pursuing accredited degree programs in post-secondary educational institutions are eligible. In general, the Foundation defines Maine residency as residence in Maine four consecutive years immediately prior to the filing of the application. Which degree progams are eligible?We consider students pursuing any accredited post-secondary degree program, in or outside of Maine, including Associate, Bachelor, Master and Doctoral Degrees. How many grants are available each year?The number of available grants changes depending on the investment earnings of the foundation's endowment. The Foundation awarded sixteen grants in 1998 and fourteen grants in 1999. The amount of the award is $3,000 a year. What is the term of the grant?Grants are made for one academic year and paid directly to the degree-granting institution. How can I apply?You may print an application from this site, e-mail or write to the administrator for an application. Barking does NOT accept applications sent by e-mail or fax. What if I do not have my financial aid form by March 1? Would my application still be incomplete?No, as long as all other parts of the application are completed, financial aid forms can be sent when received. What conditions apply to the receipt of a grant?The recipient must meet the definition of Maine residency, must demonstrate financial need, must be enrolled in an accredited postsecondary educational degree granting institution, and must have received approval from the Board of Directors. Final release of a grant is dependent upon the statement of unmet need submitted by the degree granting institution on behalf of the applicant. Recipients must notify the Foundation of their acceptance within fourteen days of receiving their notice of intent to award the grant. Are there any other conditions to receiving a grant?From time to time, the Foundation may enter into a contractual relationship with a recipient making the grant award conditional upon specific terms determined between the Foundation and the recipient, e.g. later charitable contribution, academic performance, service to the State of Maine. What qualities does the Barking Foundation consider when reviewing applications?
