Application Rules

All applications must be typed and double-spaced. Photocopies of the original application form are acceptable. You may not apply by e-mail or fax. Incomplete applications will not be considered; if you must send part of your application at a later date, please make note of this.

The Barking Foundation is an equal opportunity granting agency. We do not consider applications on the basis of race/ethnicity, gender, affectional orientation, veteran's status, religion or physical ability. Please let the Foundation know if you have a learning disability and its extent; this information assists us in evaluating your application fairly.

Applications are due March 1, 2001. Applications and portions of applications (except for statement of unmet financial need from students pending admission notification from a degree-granting institution) postmarked after that date will not be considered. Applicants receiving awards will be notified after April 15, 2001.

An application form in Acrobat Portable Document Format (PDF) can be downloaded and printed from this site. If you do not have Acrobat Reader you may download it to your computer free of charge by clicking on the Adobe logo at left. Along with that form, you will need to submit an essay. On separate sheets of paper please write a double-spaced typewritten essay not more than 750 words on one of the two topic choices below. Spelling, grammar, style and substance are important. You are invited to submit additional, non-returnable information about yourself that you believe will be useful to the committee in assessing your qualifications and achievements.

Topic 1: People say that everyone has a book in them. Tell us about the one in you.

Topic 2: If you were building a house, where would it be and what would it be like?

Also submit:

    • Two (2) letters of references from non-family members in sealed envelopes.
    • FAFSA form.
    • Transcripts (at least two years) from your most recent academic institutions (high school or college).
    • If you are already enrolled in a college and you have been awarded financial aid for the school year, please enclose a copy of that document.

We suggest that you supply the people writing your references and the transcript issuing authorities with stamped envelopes addressed to:
